Things I've thought about lately....

If I were growing up during the civil rights movement, would I be fighting for or against? I'd like to think for ... I mean I'm a staunch liberal, in favor of equal rights for all, etc. But is that because of the enivironment I've grown up in? Would I have thought differently if I grew up during the times of segregation?

Do you think new presidents get new mattresses? I wouldn't want to sleep in the same bed as G.W. Who moves their stuff in? I'd like to see the "changing of the families" - it must be such a sight. After all, in one day Bush has to be out and Obama in.

I don't think Ic an imagine you being anything other than a liberal ;) But it's an interesting question: would your views have changed because the social environment was so different back then? Hard to say. Wonder if certain traits like prejudice or social activism are genetic?

I wish I could go see the inauguration but I am sure lodging is at a premium now in the DC area. I saw on the news that the Ritz Carlton in the capital has an inauguration suite--for the low low price of $7,000 a night for 10 nights!

I'm hopeful for the future. A new era starts tomorrow!

You are growing up in a civil rights movement! The civil rights in question aren't quite as impacting as the ones in contention during the times of segregation, but I'd say that any gay couple wanting to get married would have a thing or two to say about civil rights.

So all you have to do to figure out if you would have fought for civil rights back then is just to ask yourself if you are fighting for them today.

Oh yes, I get that we are in a civil rights movement right now as well ... but, are my views and beliefs in equal rights because of those who fought to ebolish segregation? I suppose that's the question - good old nature vs. nurture argument.
